MARIO BENITO LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

Glassell School of Art

Glassell School of Art, Brown Foundation Plaza, for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, 2018

The plaza, wholly built over a new parking garage, has become an important public space for Houston residents as well as museum visitors. The plaza includes a splash fountain that when not in use reveals a textured granite plaza with enough open space to host a variety of museum and community events. A bosque of Mexican Sycamore trees bring much-needed shade and the trees frame views of the monumental Cloud Column sculpture by Anish Kapoor.
